Supporters We believe the proposed placement will enrich Sam’s grasp of the arts beyond the classroom and are honoured by your considering this request. Former students working with your institution have had extraordinarily rich experiences and learned much from the opportunities you provided. Aynne Johnson, Dramatic Arts Education, Co-Coordinator, Artisti-in-Community Education, Queen’s University. "Centre for the Arts is more the just a space for artists, it is literally the center for the arts, a Mecca for all artists to converge. It has allowed me to develop my passion for the arts by providing a venue whereby I can meet, discuss, and work with a diverse group of artists. More so, Centre for the Arts has provided me with some of the best opportunities to develop my skills as an aspiring cinematographer. Be it working at the teen film camp with the Centre’s film-maker in residence (Matt Hilliard-Forde), attending forums dealing with the role of the cinematographer, or working directly under Joan Hutton C.S.C. as an assistant cameraman on the short film Running Towards Tomorrow, Centre for the Arts has helped me progress tremendously while continually providing a community in which I can increase my experience in my chosen art form while expanding into other arts. Through the Young Company I’ve been given the opportunity to branch out into theatre and attempt set design and lighting for a stage show. It is imperative that a place like Centre for the Arts exists in order to create support and awareness for the importance of the arts in our community." -Zachary Cox, 3rd year Film Student, Ryerson University
“This camp was fun but could have used more members.”
“This was a very cool camp and it made me learn things I didn’t know before.”
"Having led a workshop for John Boylan and the Centre for the Arts I have seen the calibre and standards of the students and the Film Camp. This camp provides a realistic opportunity for young people to discover and recognize what the film and tv industry is truly about; and not a fantasy world lived simply through going to the movies. I would therefore encourage your support of the CFA Film Camp." -George Bloomfield, Director
“This camp was a great experience. I learnt so many aspects of filmmaking. This camp made me appreciate all the people that help make a film and not only the actors. I loved the film we produced. The five days were so much fun. Thank you.”
“The camp was a fabulous experience! A wonderful open, friendly environment to learn and work in. I felt that everyone learned from each other. The teens learned from me, but I also learned from them, as I learned from the Young Company. It was the funnest time and I really enjoyed it!!! I came into it unaware and just willing to help and it surpassed all my expectations!!! Thank you!” - Caroline, Young Company, Summer Film Camp for Teens
“The teen film camp is an amazing way for teens to learn and produce their own films with working professionals in the industry.”
“This camp was so amazing. I love it so much. I’m one lucky girl to be involved with this camp. I appreciate everyone behind the scenes. I give this camp 5 thumbs up. I love this camp.” – Denise Collins, Summer Film Camp for Teens
“Lately I’ve really learned about the dynamics of creating in a group, each with equal ownership. The camp really allowed some great organic creations and allowed for a new perspective on one another’s work as artists.”
“The support that the centre gives, infrastructure the Centre provides makes the process so much easier & more tangible that has been my experience w/ RTT haven’t had to think about stuff b/c Centre takes care of the opportunity to work w/ the caliber of people & the connections of the Centre give access to. Relationsips John has b/c of career in industry. The collaborative nature of it all. Opportunity to work w/ the teens & the young company at the summer teen cmap gives whole sense of essential continuity.” – Matt Hilliard-Forde, Filmmaker-In-Residence 2003
“I was fortunate to be able to participate in the Centre for the Arts placement program for high school/university students during the month of July, 2003. Immediately, I felt welcome in the Centre's warm and exciting atmosphere; there were always new events to prepare for, and people to meet. Since beginning my term there, I've met a variety of people working in the arts; screenwriters, directors, and actors, all of whom have valuable insights and information that would be priceless to individuals pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. Overall, I would wholly recommend that arts/fine arts students visit the Centre for the Arts, for the placement program or otherwise, and take advantage of the many resources it has to offer." - Jocelyn Geddie, Placement Program
"I was lucky enough to be a part of the leadership team at the 2004 Centre for the Art`s March Break Film Camp for Teens. I was highly impressed by the organization of the Centre and the enthusiasm of everyone involved. A supportive working environment was created from the first day of camp and the teens felt comfortable to explore and work together in collaborative groupa without any prompting from the staff. I was overwhelmed by how committed the campers were to the projects they were working on and how much they grew as individuals throughout the week. The Film Camp offers the perfect opportunity to dive into the world of film making from all angles. Although the teens were asked at the beginning what aspect of film they were most interested in, they were offered the chance to try everything. One girl found her niche in the role of Producer or Assistant Director and another teen excelled unexpectedly in cinematography. I found myself caught up in all the excitement and went home every day having learnt something new. As an Outreach Program the Film Camp is an invaluable experience for students who would not otherwise be exposed to such a creative environment. I firmly believe that this camp can change lives." -Adrienne Ferguson, Teacher Candidate, Queen's University
"I want to express my appreciation for the ongoing dedication that you and everyone at the Centre for the Arts shows for the fostering of new creative talent and the support for the our arts community. In a very real way, the Centre creates a variety of meaningful opportunities for professional artistic development and, through its very existence, functions as an important pillar for the Arts community in our city. A creative space like the Centre where artists can both work together and interact with one another is fundamental to creating a sense of community. Since the performing arts is in so many ways a collaborative process, having an open space like the Centre is integral to the continued enrichment of our arts and culture. I have found the Centre for the Arts to be a very welcoming environment where creative minds are encouraged and supported in their artistic endeavors. The positive effect this has on our arts commuinity is invaluable and is a testament to you and your staff on both a personal and professional level. I wish you continued success and growth in the new year and am pleased as always to pledge my support the Centre for the Arts on an ongoing basis." -David Krae, Filmmaker
"It was a little over 2yrs ago that I was introduced to you & the Centre. Since then I’ve been fortunate enough to work, through the support of you & the Centre, on at least 2 plays, several short films, numerous film camps along with meeting & working with some of the finest artists I know. You & the Centre have offered me so much and I sincerely thank you for it. You are part of something bigger than I think you will ever know! Thank you for all that you have done!" -Zach Cox |
