Directing the Actor

It was a fantastic, illuminating and highly productive 3 days. The insight into the actor’s process is invaluable to me. Thanks, John.
— Rebecca Snow, Director participant 2024

This course can assist directors to acquire the skill and confidence to successfully work with actors.

After delivering the Directing the Actor course at the New York University, Graduate Film School; the National Screen Institute, Winnipeg and for The Directors Guild of Canada, Toronto, this course is now being offered here.

Suitable candidates should have a level of previous experience either through filmmaking, TV, web, theatre, commercials or as a film school graduate.

Directors will:

  • Have 3 days of practical and in-depth learning.

  • Prepare one scene to shoot.

  • Work with professional actors.

  • Audition the actors.

  • Learn to make best use of rehearsal time.

This specially designed course offers an intimate group of directors the opportunity to immerse themselves in acting and the actor. The directors will learn to better understand their own communication and leadership styles as well as develop a simple fluency in the grammar of the actor’s performance. As directors learn first and foremost by doing, each participant will have ample directing time as they learn the actor’s methodology, terminology and psychology.

Classes are 4 hours each day, over three days.
A resume and letter of interest must be submitted before attendance can be confirmed.
Location: Milestone Casting Studios, 400 Eastern Avenue, Toronto.
April 12, 14, 16 – Friday, Sunday, Tuesday from 10 00 am to 3 00 pm. Eastern Time Zone.

$525.00 (tax included)
